Meet the Service Manager

Ward Butler

manager-richmond.jpgWard Butler, our Richmond, Vermont Earthmoving and Power Systems Service Manager, joined the company in 1988. A graduate of Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute, Ward's first job out of school was as a merchant marine in the Great Lakes. Looking for more time at home, he applied for a job at our parts department, where he worked for five years, describing it as – "A good experience at understanding inventory." His next positions were as a service writer, then PSSR or Parts and Service Sales Representative, followed by parts manager; he became service manager in 2000.

Ward describes his management style as "Cohesive" and says that he wants buy-in and likes feedback from his crew – "I don't want to dictate and impose; I want people to have their own ideas; I am actually a better listener than a talker!" His pet peeve? "When people don't ask questions…because the absence of information gets filled with negatives." And his one demand? "Passion."

Ward believes that Milton CAT offers tremendous growth opportunities, and points at his own career as proof. He thinks that Milton CAT is a good fit for service technicians who want to be on the cutting edge and enjoy being problem solvers.
